These are steps required to register as a Student on the SpreadSims site. We will use -> to indicate where to go.
1. Register as a Student under Create Account. Write or copy and paste the Classroom ID that your teacher has given you, your Ticket Number that you will get from your text book, and (if applicable) your Lab ID. You will be sent an Authentication email from SpreadSims that includes your username , password and an activation link.
2. Please copy and paste or click on the activation link in this email to authenticate you and complete the registration process. (This email should arrive within 60 seconds, so please check spam also if you do not see it in this timeframe, since some spam filters may pick it up by mistake.)
3. Now you can login and you will either be sent directly to your Session, or to Student Center -> Main page to check out your new Profile and to see information relevant to the Classroom(s) that you are registered into. Your Teacher can only allocate you to a Session after you have registered, so you may have to wait a day or so until they have done this.
4. To Play a Sim at your University
– Read the latest news from the Teacher of your Classroom
– Download the Sim User Manual at Student Center -> Student Mainpage -> Active Session
– View an applicable videos
– Start Excel, go to SpreadSims -> Simulator -> Network -> Join and copy and paste your SimID into the input dialogue and then your Username and Password. After about 10 seconds, the Sim will come up on your screen and you can input your decisions.
– Complete any required Quizzes
5. To Play a Sim on your own PC
– Download the SpreadSims Simulator plugin from Student Center -> Student Mainpage -> Download Client. This is a zip file of about 1MB.
– Install this on Excel on your machine. You will need to have administrator rights to do this and just click on setup.exe and the rest will be automatic. The software is currently tested for Excel 2003 and 2007 running under Windows XP. This will install a plug-in for Excel that appears on the menu as SpreadSims.
