These are steps required to register as an Author on the SpreadSims site. We will use -> to indicate where to go.
1. Register as an Author on at www.SpreadSims.net -> Create Account Go to Author Center -> Main page to check out your new Profile
2. Download the SpreadSims Client at Author Center -> Author Mainpage -> Download Client. This is about 1MB in size.
3. Install this on Excel. You will need to have administrator rights to do this on some university machines and ask your System Administrator to do this. The software is currently tested for Excel 2003 and 2007 running under Windows XP. This will install a plug-in for Excel that appears on the menu as SpreadSims.
4. Read the How to Build a Great SpreadSim Tutorial document (pdf) by clicking here. This will give you step-by-step instructions how to use SpreadSims to build a Sim including the following resouces:
– a User briefing (.doc, .rtf, .pdf - preferable pdf)
– a Teacher Briefing (.doc, .rtf, .pdf - preferable pdf)
– a Video (the site can use only .flv files)
– a Quiz
– a Sim Model
5. Design, build and Test the Sim Model
6. Publish the Sim Model at Author Center -> Publish Sim. A Sim can be of three types
– a Private Sim available only to those that you choose
– a Closed Sim available only to a specific Classroom that you choose
– an Open Sim available to everyone.
After your SpreadSim is published you can do the following:
1. Edit Sim Details at Author Center -> Author Mainpage -> Edit Sim
2. Add News to a Sim at Author Center -> Author Mainpage -> Add News
3. Check the statistics of the usage and learning related to the Sim (Not implemented yet)
4. Check your favourite Sims at Author Center -> Author Mainpage -> Sim Model List
